Fiona Castle tells how she met Roy

Fiona Castle told a packed breakfast gathering on Saturday how she met her late husband Roy and how Jesus brought her hope when she was in despair.

On Saturday Fiona Castle, widow of Roy Castle the former Children`s television presenter, spoke to some 70 ladies over breakfast at Kings Road Church. Her audience was riveted by her account of her times performing in ballet, pantomime and shows and of working with Eric Morecambe and Harry Secombe among others. It was Eric Morecombe who introduced her to Roy Castle who she already fancied. Within a year they married and went on to have four children.

As successful as life seemed on the outside Fiona said she felt utterly empty on the inside. She sank into such despair that one day she just cried out to God saying that if he was there then would he help her. That same day a friend `phoned her to invite her round for coffee. As she poured out her heart to her friend, her friend told her about Jesus and challenged her to invite Jesus into her life. Fiona did so and was amazed at the transformation that Jesus brought about. When years later she and Roy had to face the fact that he would shortly die of cancer, they both felt the peace that only he can bring in such terrible circumstances.

In addition to a delicious breakfast the ladies were presented with roses, a note saying how precious they were to God and some prizes were given out too.
